Hello. Just wondering, if an AG doll dress has no tags, is it fake? Just wondering because I see a lot out there on ebay that say they are authentic with no tags and they look 100% real but I am too leary to buy all the time because of the no tag thing.. anyone know?

Authentic with no tags could mean that the person bought it directly from pleasant company and in the course of play the tag was removed. For example, I know that all my dolls socks are authentic, but there is nothing marking them. I know it because they came on my dolls feet straight from PC. But if I sold them, you'd just have to believe me.

So, In these instances you are just going to have to trust the seller.

If the price is low, compare pictures of the fabric to AGs the best you can. Then decide if it is worth it to you to take the gamble. If you can prove it is a fake after you recieve it, you can file a complaint with ebay because they misrepresented the item. Paying with paypal gives you the best protection.

If the price is high, I would pass. Sometimes it's just to much of a gamble.

I would be very careful. There is a seller who consistently has clothing she claims is authentic and with no tags. The clothes I have seen from this seller look *off* to me: yes, they appear to be authentic at first glance, but they often look like they are not sewn quite right, the patterns do not line up exactly right, etc. I often see these sold in lots of 2, 3, or more, with retired outfits frequently showing up in the mix. Once again, I do not want to hurt any legitimate sales, but I would be VERY careful.

Just a thought....do you think anyone would have access to the cast offs from the manufacturer? You know, the ones that don't make it through quality control?

It seems like a lot of work to reproduce so many different items and sell them for low prices. I have been wanting to get one of those auctions without tags just to satisfy my curiosity and compare it with an authentic outfit that I have, but I don't want to waste the money either!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This would make sense: I don't know how they would be able to have the exact same fabrics otherwise. Then again, I don't have much of a clue how counterfeit manufacturers work !

Well I just noticed there is a certain seller that does sell a lot of 2-3 outfits at times and says they are authentic but most dont have tags or the outfits are not complete. They do have great feedback though, but I dont know if I would even risk it.. maybe they actually are real, but when I look at their completed items you see there are more than 1 of the same outfit he/she has sold so it makes me kind of leary... but for now... I am waiting on the new items anyways so hopefully they will be available!

I have bought clothes from her, and they do have remnants of the tags on them, just clipped off. I'm assuming she gets them at the MCM sale. Especially since it just happened a few months ago. So far, I've been thrilled with my purchases, then again I want the clothes to 'read along' with the stories, not save them for resale.

I think I have bought from the same seller and have been pleased with my purchase. My guess is that she has access to seconds and overruns. Similar to things sold by Loehmann's, Ross, etc.

About a year ago I won a couple of items that did not have tags. They were two separate auctions but were from one seller. When I received them I was pretty sure they were not actual american girl/pleasant company items. However, they are still cute and I still have them. They don't seem to have the same quality as I would expect authentic items to have so I now try to avoid these types of auctions. Just thought I'd add my two cents. - Meg B.
